Pickleball in Oneonta, New York

Oneonta offers an unusually strong mix of eight free dedicated outdoor courts at Neahwa Park and year-round indoor play at OTC Sports Center and the Family YMCA. Neahwa is the summer gathering place, while OTC is the most flexible paid option for court reservations, evening mingling, and professional instruction.

Where to Play Pickleball in Oneonta

Neahwa Park

15 James Georgeson Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820

Neahwa Park has eight free outdoor asphalt courts with permanent pickleball lines and nets. Restrooms and water are available, and courts operate from 7 a.m. to dusk. They are not lighted, so summer mornings and late afternoons provide the best playing conditions.

OTC Sports Center

32 Rose Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820

OTC provides four indoor pickleball courts, lighting, pass-based entry, and advance court reservations. Reservations open six days ahead; groups of four may book up to two hours, while two or three players may reserve up to 90 minutes. Fall 2026 community mingling runs Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is free to pass holders.

Oneonta Family YMCA

20-26 Ford Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820

The YMCA has two indoor wood courts with permanent lines and portable nets. Membership or a drop-in fee is required, and courts can be reserved. The gym also includes restrooms, lighting, climate control, and wheelchair access.

Pickleball Lessons in Oneonta

OTC instructors Paul van der Sommen and Gary Segal teach both pickleball and tennis. Lessons cost $90 per court per hour for pass holders or $120 for non-pass holders. A four-player group pays $22.50 per person with passes or $30 per person without them, making small-group instruction the best value.

Lesson requests go through the OTC instruction page. Players can also find an independent instructor through the Coaches section.

Open Play and Events

OTC's Pickleball Mingling meets Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. during the fall 2026 season. Everyone is welcome, and the sessions are included for pass holders. This is the clearest recurring evening option for travelers who need partners rather than a private court.

The Oneonta Pickleball Club organizes community games at Neahwa Park during outdoor season. OTC also hosts local tournaments at 32 Rose Avenue, using its four covered courts to keep play independent of rain.

Visitor Tips

Use Neahwa from 7 a.m. to dusk for free outdoor play and OTC's 5:30 p.m. mingling block for a ready-made evening group. OTC requires every player to hold a pass and sign a liability release; indoor shoes must not be worn outside before entering the courts.

Oneonta's three main venues are within a short drive of downtown. College calendars can affect gym demand at the YMCA and SUNY, but Neahwa's eight-court bank and OTC's reservation system give visitors two dependable alternatives.
